Double-wishbone Suspension

In a double-wishbone suspension, the wheel is guided by two triangulated lateral control arms (the “wishbones”) and a tie rod. The suspension strut is attached to the lower wishbone and provides the necessary vertical support. Low installed height and great width between the left and right sides characterize this suspension design and make particularly advantageous and sporty suspensions possible. Its ability to transmit loads and excellent road grip makes it ideal for the quattro®. The double-wishbone suspension takes up little room and, with an appropriate tie rod layout, prevents severe load-reversal reactions. Other suspension layouts include the trapezoidal-link rear suspension.
