It is a premiere: for the first time, the Laser World Championships will be held in Germany. Audi will be on board as partner, name-giver and supplier of the vehicles for the shuttle fleet when the sailors compete for the title and for the last remaining tickets to the Olympic Games in London on the Baltic Sea between May 4th and 20th, 2012.
The Laser is a physically and tactically challenging boat that demands fullest concentration and a maximum of athletic skills. Accordingly, the competitions on the Baltic Sea coast promise to be close and thrilling. They will be the first world championships to be held in Germany in the Olympic Laser Standard (men) and Laser Radial (women) classes. The enthusiasm is huge: around 150 male and 120 female sailors are expected in Boltenhagen.
Besides giving its name to the Audi Laser World Championships, the automobile manufacturer from Ingolstadt is featured with its logo both off- and onshore. The Four Rings are displayed on the hulls of all the boats plus on flags, printed material and sponsors’ walls. For the shuttle service, Audi makes Q5 and Q7 models available to the organizers of the event. In addition, visitors can familiarize themselves with the brand at a vehicle exhibition.
The men will open the competitions from May 4th to 10th, followed by the women from May 15th to 20th. In addition to the world championship titles, the sailors from around the world will be competing for the opportunity to participate in the Olympic Games in London. The Olympic sailing competitions will be held between Weymouth and the island of Portland.
